This might help you!So I've talked with some other EVE players, and apparently EVE is a lot about spreadsheets. The first thing you should not do in DUST514 are spreadsheets.
Don't take the easy way because it won't work. End your search for finding an easy way to get better without playing games, because there is none. You have to play games to get better.
So here's some advice that might help you.
First: make 10 or more alt PSNs and put a character on each one of them. Activate passive SP on each character. Use the alt account to practice and farm SP. Try not to screw up your main anymore than you have already. If you have a 0.02 KDR and have 50 frags, that means you have died around 2,500 times. That does not look good. KDR is an almost meaningless stat, but that does not mean that a corp will see that and ask how someone could possibly be that bad.
Second: don't use weapons that you don't need to aim, or are easy to aim while practicing. AKA no laser, no HMG, no mass driver, no sniper rifles and no shotguns. Your choices are Scrambler Pistol, Assault Rifle, and a Sub Machine Gun. I have mixed feelings about the SMG, but you can aim with it. I'd suggest you stick to scrambler pistols and assault rifles for now. Also, do not spam grenades for an easy frag. Have AV grenades on you at all times. This will prevent you from relying heavily on them. Later when you can shoot, you can practice throwing grenades, but do not do it for right now.
Third: Use the starter fits only. That's right, the free suits. Do not make changes to them. You can play as Assault - Frontline and Assault - Medic. I do not know what class you started off with, but you might be able to use that too. As of this build, Arbiter is the best starting class for almost every role. The only downside is that the Arbiter starting fit is not good at all. If you bought a merc pack, which is the best deal for purchasing AUR, you also get a free T1 scout BPO with it. You also get a BPO SMG, so you can put that on your Assault - Frontline and/or Assault - Medic suit(s) if you desire.
Fourth: Try not to burn yourself out. Tell yourself that you are going to suck for a few hours for as many days as possible. You probably are not going to play DUST514 like it's your job, but dedicate some of your playing time towards getting better.
Fifth: Stop reading forums and using spreadsheets! Get yourself in the game!
Also, do not buy any additional gaming hardware. You will probably want a headset, but other than that you should be GTG. Right now a controller is better for infantry and a keyboard and mouse is better for HAVs, but since you're staying on foot you should stick to using a controller. Get better using the best. There's no point to learn how to play DUST on a kb/m even if it is easier for you. You are struggling already, so what harm will learning how to use a controller do?
Skirmish has been bugged for awhile now, and I believe it is still bugged. The bug is that your frags and deaths are only counted if one side gets cloned. Stick to skirmish with your main. Assault (Team Deathmatch) can be fun too, but use one of your alts for that. Do not make alts on your main's account because they will not earn passive SP.
There are some noobie corps which might be able to help you to a certain extent. They will probably be ok with putting up with your current state of badness. I'm taking a wild guess here, but I have a feeling that those corps will be slightly nicer to you and help you look less-bad than you already are. If they will take you into a squad and run with you, that's great, but if you want to be good, you are going to have to deal with a little pain.
And I say use starter fits only because you can get frags in them, and you will be able to save 100% of your ISK for later. Some buy the T1 AUR suits from the market, but you still need to purchase mods and weapons to fit them. Older players were able to purchase BPO mods at low prices (ie between 15 and 30 isk each) but the prices have gone up a lot since them. The BPO suits might make more sense if you have the BPO mods, but atm you should just save your money.
Playing a single player campaign can also be helpful. DUST does not have a single-player campaign, so if you feel tired of getting your ass kicked in DUST, don't be afraid to take a break and play something else. If you bought your PS3 for DUST, I have a feeling that you're not going to quit, and the game is most certainly more enjoyable if you can kick someone's ass now and then.
I really enjoy the Unreal series, and even though many older fans hated Unreal Tournament 3 (they slowed it down a little, there are vehicles, and the game takes place not in an arena @_@), I still believe that it is one of the best console FPS games that has come out over the past few years. Since you haven't played FPS games, you won't have a bias against UT3, especially the console version of it. They slowed the console version way the **** down because they had to. PS3 =/= PC.
BTW, the bots in unreal are awesome. They will try to match your skill level, so you can have some fun playing. Playing with real people is always better, but the bots should give you a run for your money.
edit: when you're not practicing, feel free to do something lame like redline sniping or whatever. Just make sure you get some time to practice in.
